  1. Whoops! Sorry, the message I posted on the earlier thread was meant for this one.

Great plugin, btw. As someone who uses livejournal, I’ve been wanting something like this for a while.

  2. Hello, I’ve recently installed your plugin but I’ve come across a problem.

I receive the following message after installation, while attempting to select an icon in “Write Post.”

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_create_nonce() in /wp-content/plugins/post-avatar/gkl-postavatar.php on line 156

I’ve followed instructions and I can’t figure out what the problem is. The plugin installs fine and I can set options for it in the Options menu, but I receive that error whenever I try to create a post and select an icon (which are viewable). Any help is appreciated!

  3. Congratulations on being one of the finalists for the Phil Blog Awards! To further promote the event, I’m conducting an interview to feature the finalists. If you’re interested, please contact me via the details on this comment.

    Thanks! 😀

  4. Great plugin that worked fine under wp 2.1.2 then after problems with wp-cron.php giving extreme server overload I went back to WP 2.0. But now I get the following error when viewing a post
Warning: getimagesize() [function.getimagesize]: Read error! in /home/streetra/public_html/wp-content/plugins/post-avatar/gkl-postavatar.php on line 221

I tried different versions of post avatar, changed premissions but nothing seemed to help. I’ve disabled the plugin for now but really want to back again. Can you help.

  5. This is a great plugin. I’d love to see you offer another version of it though, with a slightly different functionality. Kaf Oseo wrote something similar, the Post Image plugin, but alas, it doesn’t work properly and he’s MIA at the moment. If you could write a different version to tie it to the post-title instead of the blog author, that would be very cool indeed, especially for photoblogs.

Again, thanks for all your hard work, and congrats on the nomination!

  6. Hey there. I’ve just upgraded to WP2.2 and I’ve got a couple of bugs: one is this on the write page:
Warning: opendir(/var/www/vhosts/ordinarylife.co.nz/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/avatars/): failed to open dir: Permission denied in /var/www/vhosts/ordinarylife.co.nz/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/post-avatar/gkl-postavatar.php on line 49

Warning: readdir(): supplied argument is not a valid Directory resource in /var/www/vhosts/ordinarylife.co.nz/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/post-avatar/gkl-postavatar.php on line 51

Warning: closedir(): supplied argument is not a valid Directory resource in /var/www/vhosts/ordinarylife.co.nz/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/post-avatar/gkl-postavatar.php on line 71

Also the icons are not showing in the write post page, or on my blog, despite having configured everything properly. Help please! I love this plugin!!

  7. Hello!
I’m having problems with your plugin: the avarats are not displayed by firefox 2. Do you know how to solve this?

  8. hi there,

i am using 2.2.1 and the plugin works but i do not really know what it actually does. :I
    1.)
i have the dropdown-menu at the “write post”-admin-page. my co-authors can select their avatar and it will appear at the “single post”-post.
    look: http://www.withteeth.de/?p=326
    2.)
then i added a “author.php”-page to my template and because i didn’t really know what to do i used your example:

    and this worked too:
    http://www.withteeth.de/?author=1
    http://www.withteeth.de/?author=3
    […]
but: how does it work actually? how does the plugin know the appropriate image? because of its name like “authorname.jpg” or because it has been used before inside of this author’s posts ?
because: i just added a new author. and i have put an imagefile into the folder again, the author could select it.
but it won’t appear at the author’s page yet:
    http://www.withteeth.de/?author=8

should i wait until she wrote a few posts?

  9. This is really nice, thx for creating and sharing this. Would like to add what would make it even more useful, fixed image size, maybe some kind of border templates for the ones who needs extra fanciness! 🙂 Cheers and thx again for creating this.

  10. Hello,
I have used this plugin on another wordpress blog, mywindowcleaner.info, and it works just dandy. However, I have installed the same plugin on another site, and I get bupkis. For one thing, I noticed that in the first site, avatar images are sent to wp-content/images/icons, and in the other installation, there is no icons folder. Well, I created one. It still doesn’t work. Both blogs are wordpress 2.2. Both plugins are 1.2.2, and both sites are hosted by hostica.com on windows server. The themes are different. Blue earth 10 has the functioning plugin and blue box 01 has the bad one. Does this matter?

  11. I’ve installed the plugin and it works just fine, but the avatars only are displayed in the full posts, not in the home. Is this an error or it’s jsut the way it works?

  12. Avatars are shown on any template that uses the_content() tag. I’m assuming that your home page is using the_excerpt() and that is why it
    isn’t showing up.

I’ll be adding that functionality in the next release. It will be due in two weeks (after WordPress 2.3 comes out).

  13. In my installation of Kubrick the avatar shows up twice on each page or post that has an avatar. Have you heard of this before? I haven’t manually added it to any part of my template.

The one I’d like to go away appears at html> body> div .postavatar> img

    The one I’d like to keep is at html> body> div #page> div #content .narrowcolumn > div #post-12 .post> div .entry> div .postavatar> img

    Thank you

  14. @ Elizabeth: The only time that has happened is when the gkl_postavatar tag was placed incorrectly in the template.

From what you’ve written, the post avatar tag is showing up right after the body and then once again in the post.

Can you send me the templates so I can troubleshoot it further?

  15. Hello,

thanks for this cool plugin. ÃŒs it possible to attribuate the avatar automatically to one author (in case of a multi-author blog)?

    Merci.

  16. @Sam: Post Avatar can’t attribute an avatar automatically to an author. All authors share the same set of images.

  17. This plugin is *exactly* what I’m looking for but I cannot find where to set the options: Set plugin options in Options – Post Avatar. If it makes any difference I’m using version 2.5.1 of WordPress. Any help would be gratefully appreciated – thank you. PdeP.
